The thermal deposition process - or metal spraying - consists of heating and projecting particulate material onto a prepared surface to form a coating. Depending on the material being sprayed, the properties of the coating can be varied to suit the service requirement; this may be to salvage a worn component, afford corrosion protection or impact wear resistance. Coating characteristics and methods of deposition, typical applications and the results obtained are explained.
