SPEEDY SPOUT FOR GRAIN SHIPS

The grain-loading spouts at Locust Point, Baltimore terminal were determined to be no longer adequate to load the new generation of large dry bulk carriers. In their place, four shiploaders with 35 BPH (bushels per hour) shuttle belt conveyors and telescoping spouts were installed. The shiploaders extend from new support structures under the shipping gallery to cantilever out over the vessel and pivot to provide loadout coverage. The general design, including details on the shiploading boom and safety controls are described.
