KOPER - A STEP BY STEP APPROACH TO CONTAINERISATION
The Port of Koper situated on the Adriatic coast is Yugoslavia's second largest general cargo port. It's container traffic is already significant and a rise in container throughput is indicated. Due to the high investment cost of immediately building a specialized container-handling terminal, and the risk that traffic may not reach the predicted levels, the port authority has decided to adopt a step by step approach. This approach is based on further adaption of existing facilities, building gradually to full-scale container operations as and when throughput justifies it. The three overlapping phases of the development scheme are described.
