THEORETICAL CALCULATIONS AND MODEL EXPERIMENTS IN BEAM SEAS ON ASYMMETRICAL TWIN HULLS

A method is proposed for calculating the hydrodynamic forces acting on two-dimensional and asymmetrical twin-hull sections, and an equation of the motions of twin-hulls in beam seas using these hydrodynamic forces is derived. The calculated values of the hydrodynamic forces when the twin-hulls are heaving in calm seas, the amplitudes of the waves diverging from the hulls at infinity when they are heaving in calm seas, and the amplitudes of these motions in beam seas are in good agreement with the ones obtained by model experiments. It was found through numerical calculations that the maximum amplitude of heaving motion of the twin-hull sections was almost independent of the inside form of the twin-hull sections, and the natural period of heaving motion is almost independent of the outside form.
