BARGE INTEGRATOR AND FLOATER TOW RIVER BARGES AT SEA
The Barge Integrator and Floater systems are two schemes that have been proposed for carrying separate barges in a single hull. The Barge Integrator is a large, open barge, notched at the stern for pushing by a tug. Twenty-four smaller barges are carried afloat in the wet hold of the Integrator, lashed together and protected by fenders. The Floater is ballasted down in the water enabling four 1000-ton river barges to float over its deck. After they are secured, the Floater is deballasted and lifts the barges out of the water.
