OPERATION OF PAVEMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (PMS) WITHIN AN INTEGRATED HIGHWAY INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has implemented a new integrated highway infrastructure management system to monitor and evaluate highway infrastructure and to manage all infrastructure projects requiring capital funding. As part of the development of the system, the existing 10-year-old pavement management system has been overhauled and integrated with the infrastructure management system. The integration was achieved through developing a common, user-friendly information management module accessible to users with ordinary, PC-based workstations that are linked via a province-wide area network. The integrated system enables the users to utilize one software platform to fulfill different infrastructure management needs, as well as the pavement management needs.
