PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF TRAFFIC SIMULATION USING SIMTRAFFIC

Traffic simulation applications are becoming more practical with advances in simulation programming and computer technology. Portable laptop computers combined with portable projection equipment enable traffic engineers to deliver their message to the public in ways were never dreamed of just a few years ago. This paper focuses on the strategies and potential applications of traffic simulation presenting the results of traffic studies and evaluations. The authors have used a number of software packages over the past few years, and have found that SimTraffic is the easiest to use, particularly for putting together a presentation on short notice. The paper will also compare and contrast the various simulation packages that are available. The presentation will focus on sample simulations that the authors have conducted.
