SOME EFFECTS OF DYNAMIC SOIL PROPERTIES ON SOIL-STRUCTURE INTERACTION-DISCUSSION

An alternative approach is set forth to modeling the effect of shear strain amplitude on apparent shear modulus. A stress-strain model for the behavior of over consolidated soils is developed, which is capable of giving a very good qualitative picture of the whole range of over consolidated soil behavior. The model is based on a constitutive relationship for a work-hardening plastic material. It is based on the critical state soil mechanics and has the advantage that only 4 material properties are needed to characterize a particular soil. With this model, one does not have to depend on a special formulation to handle dynamic problems. Also the values of the same four material properties are sufficient to enable calculation for any state of overconsolidation. However, the model does not handle well the stiffness at very small amplitudes.
