ASSESSING THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS OF TRANSPORT RESEARCH

This paper describes the SITPRO project, part of the 4th Frameowrk Programme. SITPRO (Study of the Impacts of the Transport Research and Technological Development Programme) was commissioned to specifically investigate potential Programme impacts. This paper is structured as follows. Section 2 outlines prinicipal features of the Transport Programme of the 4th Framework Programme. The development of the methodology to study Programme impacts is described in section 3 and the key concept of the "research impact pathway" is introduced in section 4. Section 5 describes the method's implementation. The results of the study are presented in sections 6 to 9. Barriers and facilitators to impact are summarised in section 10, as are recommendations as to how Programme impacts may be enhanced. (A) For the covering abstract see ITRD E107082.
