THE SEISMIC RETROFIT OF 23 BRIDGES ALONG ROUTE 17 IN DELAWARE AND SULLIVAN COUNTIES, NEW YORK
In 1990 a project was designated for an assignment for the rehabilitation of 23 bridges along Route 17 in Delaware and Sullivan Counties, New York by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). The project included an in-depth condition inspection, load rating, development of Bridge Rehabilitation Project Reports (BRPRs) and preliminary and final rehabilitation design for the 23 bridges and associated approach pavements. As part of the project seismic analysis was performed utilizing three dimensional modeling of the structures in order to develop the seismic retrofit design. The details provided included modifying substructure seas widths; providing continuity at simple span girders, where possible; providing cable restraints at simple span girders which could not be spliced for continuity; splicing of existing pin and hanger connections; and bearing replacement.
