ESTIMATION OF EQUIVALENT DENSITY OF SNOW ACCUMULATION FOR SHORT PERIOD
During the Third International Conference on Snow Engineering in 1996, the authors proposed a practical method to estimate the daily ground snow weight during snow cover period, which was based on the data of daily precipitation and daily mean air temperature. In this paper, that method is applied to estimate the equivalent snow densities for the short period at 126 observational points in Japan. As a result, it is found that the equivalent snow densities for the periods of 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, and 14 days can be considered as 2.1, 2.1, 2.3, and 2.6 (kgf/sq m/cm) respectively. These values correspond to 95% probability in the lognormal distribution from the data of 126 observational points.
