MATERIAL HANDLING SYSTEMS

A simulation model is presented for the optimisation of material handling systems in the construction industry. The Simahas model considers systems (A) consisting of one to three handling stages, (B) with an infinite number of equipment in a stage, (C) in which handling units in a stage have dissimilar production characteristics, (D) with any number of storage facilities between handling stages and (E) with continuous or discontinuous operating pattern. A graphical solution has also been developed for the optimisation of two-stage systems, using results obtained by the simulation model. (A) /TRRL/
