DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES IN AN ADVANCED BRIDGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
This paper describes a study carried out by the authors and discusses how the concept of the asset management of a number of individual bridges can be incorporated into a system for the structured and advanced management of a bridge stock. A new beginning was necessary and one of the first steps was to establish a "soft" or business process based diagram of the Bridge Management process to understand the constraints and information flows inherent in the system. This guided the research into re-engineering what should constitute bridge value and investigating the effects of deterioration and maintenance work. For the covering abstract see ITRD E106406.
