EMBEDDED SYSTEMS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY
In this paper, the authors examine the use of embedded hard real-time operating systems in vehicles. Two issues are addressed which present challengers for embedded systems in cars: minimizing costs and guaranteeing timing performance. The authors describe advances in guaranteeing hard real-real time performance. They also discuss European efforts in creating acceptable systems and describe defects that are currently found in real-time operating systems.
