MAGNETIC ATTRACTION

This article discusses the concept of magnetic guidance as applied to transportation. Four main application areas for magnetic lateral warning and guidance systems are discussed: vehicle guidance in adverse winter driving conditions; electronic rumble strips for preventing run-off accidents; precision docking and maneuvering; and lateral control and longitudinal guidance. The components of a magnetic guidance system include magnetic guidance tape, a sensor bar and an in-vehicle display unit. Benefits of the system and future applications are discussed.
