LOOKING FOR NEW CONTACTLESS POINTS : HONG KONG'S OCTOPUS SMART CARD COULD GET A LOT SMARTER, BUT IT WILL HAVE TO PICK ITS WAY CAREFULLY THROUGH REGULATIONS AND COMPETITION FROM OTHER QUARTERS FIRST

This article discusses the use smart cards in Hong Kong. The cards have been applied to all modes of public transportation except for taxis, some ferry companies and public light bus companies, and the Hong Kong Island trams. The article discusses the need for making smart cards more convenient by allowing them to be used on other non- transportation related applications.
