VISUAL IMPACTS OF HIGHWAY AND URBAN STREET PROJECTS
Visual impact assessments are an integral part of the visual landscape design and are required when road projects are proposed in scenic areas. Procedures for a visual impact assessment report are given. The various elements of the horizontal and vertical alignment are studied in connection to the visual impacts a road has on the environment, together with an evaluation of the roadside usage. The perfecture of Xanthi in Greece has several scenic roads. One of them crosses the mountainous northern part of the area. Many environmental impacts there exist because of the location and alignment of the roadway. Solutions are proposed in optical form through pictures of two sites.
