PARKING AT A DISTANCE: OPTION FOR REDUCING TRAFFIC AND PARKING PRESSURE IN URBAN AREAS
Urban agglomerations face increasing problems in accommodating traffic and parking demand. An interesting option is to develop tailor made shuttle services by bus from large, scarcely used, parking facilities at the edge of urban areas, towards specific spots within the urban area such as large companies, inner city shopping areas or labor areas. This paper describes a study focused at exploring the viability of shuttle services. The study is based on modelling travel behavior of employees of a large office located close to the inner city of a large urban agglomeration in the Netherlands. The study used conjoint choice measurement to explore the employees' attitude towards parking at a distance combined with company shuttle services The paper describes the measurement approach and the main results.
