THE AUTO-TAXI FUTURE TRANSPORT CONCEPT: DESIGN RESPONSE TO RESEARCH
Description of a new transportation system that meets changing needs, complements multimodal travel and offers reduced environmental impact is the focus of this paper. The work consists of two main components: research into the current situation and design solution. Travel demand, current transportation preference and related impacts are discussed first, followed by examples of measures to correct difficulties and consideration of influences that hinder change. Results of a local survey complete the supporting research. Key features of the proposed system and vehicle, as well as operating recommendations and parameters are presented as a solution to the findings. The aim of the research is to promote coordination of new alternatives with appropriate policies to reduce urban, cultural and environmental impact through curbed automobile dependence.
