DEVELOPMENT OF RESERVED SEAT INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR SHINKANSEN
Shinkansen and limited express passengers of East Japan Railway Company are requested to have their tickets examined on a number of occasions: at a conventional station ticket gate, at a Shinkansen automatic ticket gate, and on the train. To improve these checking methods, the authors have been developing the reserved seat information system, aiming to omit redundant checking of passengers' tickets when passengers sit in their reserved seats. This system is able to let the conductor know the necessary reserved seating data by radio transmission when passengers insert their tickets in a Shinkansen automatic ticket gate. Various trials of radio transmission have been conducted. From a technical point of view, a practical and efficient system has been achieved.
