WATER--CINDERELLA INGREDIENT OF CONCRETE
Water is an essential ingredient in concrete manufacture; however, there is a dearth of research data on the properties of water for making concrete and there is also an absence of standards or even serious guides on the properties of mixing water. This article deals with water used in the concrete mixture and for curing. The aim is to help collate knowledge of the influence of mixing water on the properties of concrete, and to stimulate further research in this area. Sections are devoted to ASTM and other standards for mixing water, criteria for acceptance of mixing water, wash water, use of domestic waste water, water for curing, and the author's conclusions.
