UN SIECLE DE PREOCCUPATIONS ROUTIERES : REGARD SOCIOHISTORIQUE SUR LE TRAITEMENT DES PROBLEMES ENGENDRES PAR LA CIRCULATION AUTOMOBILE [A CENTURY OF CONCERN ABOUT ROADS : A SOCIOHISTORICAL VIEW OF THE APPROACH TO ROAD TRAFFIC PROBLEMS]
In this paper, the author presents a socio-historical approach towards studying traffic congestion. Three particular approaches are identified: 1) "nomological", which focuses on human and physical laws which control road traffic; 2) "ethological", which focuses on human and system behavior; and, 3) technological, in which telematics is seen as the primary method of relieving traffic congestion.
