A FUZZY LOGIC MICROSCOPIC SIMULATION MODEL FOR INTERURBAN ATT ASSESSMENT

This paper describes the fuzzy logic enhanced motorway traffic simulation model (FLOWSIM) which is used to assess the effectiveness of various intelligent transportation systems (ITS) measures. The model uses fuzzy inference systems to model drivers' decision making processes in car following and lane changing. Current applications for FLOWSIM include freeway merge/closure and incidents, variable speed limits, autonomous intelligent cruise control, and automated traffic lanes for convoy equipped vehicles.
