ISSUES OF AUTOMATED VEHICLES OPERATING IN MIXED TRAFFIC
This paper gives an overview of the activities of the Mixed Traffic Team of the National Automated Highway System Consortium (NAHSC) regarding the of automated highways in supporting mixed (both automated and manual) traffic. Safety aspects of mixed traffic are discussed, including crash causes, general hazards, driver actions and obstacles are discussed. Requirements for a mixed traffic automated highway system are identified.
