MULTIPLE OBJECTIVES: AGENCY COST VS LEVEL OF SERVICE ON NORTHERN LOW VOLUME HIGHWAYS
Transportation engineers and economists are often confronted with having to make important decisions in the face of complexity and uncertainty often with multiple competing objectives. Recent developments in analytical methods in the area of decision analysis made possible by advances in both computer hardware and software now make it possible to analyze multiobjective problems in ways that were not possible only a couple of years ago. This paper illustrates some of these recent developments as applied to selecting the most appropriate level of road service to be provided on low volume northern roads.
