IMPACT OF CULTURAL TRENDS ON URBAN TRANSPORTATION
This paper analyzes urban transportation policy and planning against the background of changing societal values. It is an attempt to explain and understand why planning from different decades produces different results. Making the value judgements explicit should lead to more informed debate and better discussions. Trends in urban planning influence transportation patterns. This paper examines trends in urban planning from the compact city to the suburban model and then back to the neo-traditional compact form. It concludes by describing the current conflict between suburban and compact land use approaches.
