Methods and equipment entirely new to the oil industry will be used to install platform Hondo in 850-ft waters of the Santa Barbara Channel off California. The platform is scheduled for completion by the end of this year and production is to begin in early 1978. Exxon will drill 28 wells from the structure into the Hondo field, which was discovered in 1969, 5 1/2 miles offshore. Production from the field is scheduled to begin in early 1978, and should reach a peak rate of 60,000 bopd and 77 MMcfgd.
