SOME DETERMINANTS OF CARGO-HANDLING EFFICIENCY
The reasons for different levels of cargo-handling efficiency for different general-cargo (break-bulk) ships arriving at Israel's three major ports during 1973/74 are described. A measure is presented for determining the effectiveness in cargo-handling productivity among ships. Factors found to be associated with productivity include the age and size of the ship, the number of hatches per hold, and crane type and capacity.
