INTEGRATED HULL INFORMATION CONTROL SYSTEM--IHICS

IHICS (Integrated Hull Information Control System) is an integrated computerized system which covers everything from hull construction design to loft production engineering and is now in use for actual ships. The system has already been applied with very successful results to several types of ships such as bulk carriers, container ships, cargo ships and ULCC. This system is based on the total hull design system developed by IHI in 1971. In order to be able to process many various kinds of data, with high reliability, flexibility, and easy maintenance, IHICS incorporates the IMS DB/DC (Information Management System, produced by IBM Co.) as the basic data base. In the application of the system programs, the following viewpoints are particularly taken into consideration: (1) Extension of applicable ship's type and sizes; (2) Easy maintenance; and (3) Re-examination of the contents for input/output. This paper provides the design concept, characteristics and usage of IHICS with some examples of actual outputs.
