This book begins with an introduction to logistics and transportation. It describes the process of analyzing logistics systems and discusses the concept of integrated logistics network planning. The book then describes the various logistics functions and presents models and algorithms to address primary logistics decisions in the functional areas. This is followed by a study of the use of metrics to measure performance in logistics. The book concludes with a discussion regarding recent trends in logistics such as third-party logistics benchmarking, virtual warehousing and global logistics. The book also covers a few topics that may not be covered in standard logistics books. These include functional areas such as vendor selection inventory models with logistics costs, and advanced transportation models.
