RESEARCH RESULTS IN THE APPLICATION OF MULTIQUADRATIC EQUATIONS TO SURVEYING AND MAPPING PROBLEMS

The fundamentals of multiquadratic analysis are stated, multiquadratic equations of topography and bathymetry are described, and cartographic applications in other fields are discussed. Observations and comments are made on aspects such as reduction of gravity measurements, the transportation of digitized imagery into picture functions, analytical topographic surfaces by spatial intersection, astrogeodetic profiles, least squares mode in multiquadratic equations, osculating mode in multiquadratic analysis, and multiquadratic harmonic analysis. The first application of multiquadratic analysis was to represent topographic surfaces analytically in cartesian coordinates. Such equations may be applied in many other fields eg. the isohyetal maps in hydrology.
