TRIP GENERATION PROCEDURES: AN IMPROVED DESIGN FOR TODAY'S NEEDS

Attributes desirable in the trip generating analysis are listed, and the basis for a simplified approach to the problem is set forth. The foundation for this approach is the basic relationship between household income, auto ownership of the household and the number of trips made by the household per day. The data for this relationship is based on combined household and trip information, typically obtained in a home interview origin-destination survey. The application of this approach to trip production, income forecasting, and non-residential trip generation, are described.
