BUILDING PROFESSIONAL CAPACITY IN ITS : GUIDELINES ON DEVELOPING THE FUTURE TRANSPORTATION PROFESSIONAL
In this report, guidelines and recommendations are presented for developing the future transportation professional. A set of competency skills were developed as a result of a series of interviews with current transportation professionals. The competency requirements were in the areas of: information, sensing, computer technologies, systems, telecommunications, electrical engineering and institutional issues. Recommendations are presented according to three sections: characteristics of future professionals engaged in operations and management; recommendations to a range of educational institutions and audiences; and, recommendations for those involved in the federal Professional Capacity Building Program.
