THE AUTONAV/DOT PROJECT BASELINE MEASUREMENT SYSTEM FOR EVALUATION OF ROADWAY DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM
In this report, the authors present a set of performance metrics and a performance measurement system that have been developed for the evaluation of roadway departure warning systems. The method involves a baseline measurement system (BMS) which is designed to obtain a baseline of how a warning system is expected to perform. The baseline is compared to the warning system's actual performance as a way to determine a measure of reliability. The report describes how the BMS is used to evaluate a warning system. This is followed by a description of the components of the BMS. Results of tests designed to validate the measurement capabilities of the BMS are presented.
