SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT LAW: MORE THAN A PLANNING GOAL. IN: MODERNIZING STATE PLANNING STATUTES: THE GROWING SMART WORKING PAPERS, VOLUME ONE
While land-use planning and growth management legislation are important to handling the needs of a burgeoning U.S. population in their effort to protect the environment and ensure economic well being, they are only a piece of the development puzzle--and not even the most significant piece. To achieve the goal of sustainable development, the sweep across our legal system must be broad. Putting all legislative policies and common law decisions through the screen of sustainable development should result in improved policy making.
