TWENTY-FIVE YEAR EXPERIENCE WITH POLYMER CONCRETE BRIDGE DECK OVERLAYS. IN: POLYMERS IN CONCRETE: THE FIRST THIRTY YEARS
The paper summarizes the construction, performance and use of polymer concrete bridge overlays over the past 25 years. Multiple layer epoxy, multiple layer epoxy urethane, methacrylate slurry and premixed polyester styrene are some of the polymer concrete overlays that have an established history of use and acceptance. Polymer concretes used in overlays have shown good resistance to water, deicing chemical, acids and petroleum products; they have also shown good resistance to wear under traffic. When constructed in accordance with AASHTO specifications, polymer overlays should have a service life of 25 years.
