CARGO FLOW AND TRANSIT IMPACTS ON PORT DEVELOPMENT
This article presents an analysis of the changes of cargo flow structures, the distribution by overseas regions, and the potential impact they may have on port development. It also studies how cargo type and transit regions influence vessel capacity. The paper first presents an evaluation of cargo flow changes. It then gives a brief analysis of vessels operating on the Baltic. This is followed by an analysis of cargo flow at the Klaipeda seaport in Lithuania and how these flows impact ship sizes. The paper concludes with a look at the potential impact that large tonnage may have port and terminal operations and development.
