THE STUDY OF SCHOOLCHILDREN TRANSPORTATION EFFICIENCY IN LITHUANIA
This paper presents a method for optimizing the network of comprehensive schools in Lithuania, reflecting the constantly changing demographic situation. With some needing to be closed or others re- structured, the transportation network that carries pupils to and from their schools needs to be revised. Rationalizing the transport system that carries school children will save the state money that can be reinvested in the schools and can help reorganize various vocational programs taking into account different demographic factors. Research for this study showed a wide range in the cost of transporting school children, up to five times, which suggests more study of this element is needed. Analysis should take into account pupils' distance from schools and the relative costs of using different systems to transport them there. The repay time of a dedicated "yellow" bus depends on how its operating costs compare to other methods.
