ASSESSING THE SIGNIFICANCE OF TRADITIONAL CULTURAL PROPERTIES: ARIZONA PRACTICES
This paper describes the results of Arizona's considerable efforts to develop a process for dealing with traditional cultural properties within the National Register Section 106 process. Through workshops and meetings with tribes, agencies, consultants, the National Register of Historic Places, and other interested groups, the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office has taken a leading role in developing culturally appropriate mechanisms for identifying and evaluating these historic properties.
