EARTHQUAKE RISK ASSESSMENT FOR ISTANBUL METROPOLITAN AREA
The impact of earthquakes in urban areas prone to disastrous earthquakes necessitates the analysis of associated risk for rational formulation of contingency plans and mitigation strategies. For the development of an earthquake risk scenario in Istanbul, 2 independent approaches, one based on intensities and the other on spectral displacements, are utilized in a seismic risk scenario simulation. This paper presents the key features of a comprehensive study in this area, highlighting the methodology, discussing results, and giving insights into future developments.
