A SIMULATION MODEL FOR STRATEGIC PLANNING IN RAIL FREIGHT TRANSPORT SYSTEMS
Railroad transportation in the European Union (EU) is currently undergoing structural change, derived primarily from the liberalization and regulatory reform process that has been set in motion in recent years. In this new environment, appropriate tools for strategic planning would be an important aid to the transport entities involved. This article presents and discusses a simulation model designed as a decision-aid tool for strategic planning of rail freight networks in EU countries.
