STORMWATER QUALITY AND WATER QUANTITY: MEETING THE CHALLENGES ON THE PORT OF BRISBANE MOTORWAY
This paper describes how the Port of Brisbane Motorway will one day link the Gateway Motorway to the Port of Brisbane. It will make freight movement more efficient, and will enhance the long-term economic development of both Queensland and Australia. The motorway will carry a large proportion of heavy commercial vehicles. The motorway project is being delivered in two stages. The recently constructed Stage 1 of the Motorway is about 4.5 km long and extends from the Gateway Motorway and joins Lytton Road just east of Lindum Road. The Federal and Queensland Governments and the Port of Brisbane Corporation are jointly funding Stage 1. Funding for Stage 2, which will complete the link to Fisherman Islands, is yet to be confirmed, but is expected to be a number of years away. This paper details how environmentally sustainable outcomes in the areas of water quality and quantity were achieved on Stage 1 of the Port of Brisbane Motorway.
