EVALUATION OF ALTERNATIVES FOR PLANNING OF BRIDGE APPROACHES
The purpose of this paper is to discuss a case study of a bridge approach of Nizamuddin located at southern part of Delhi. In view of increasing traffic and poor accessibility across the rivers in most of the cities in India, the planning of Bridge Approaches across the rivers has been imperative for safety and efficiency of traffic operations. The primary problems encountered at the bridges are mostly due to inadequate planning and designing of bridge approaches, resulting in the formation of long queue of traffic and excessive vehicular delay. Looking at the scenario of the problems of bridge approaches, a case study of a bridge approach of Nizamuddin located at southern part of Delhi has been studied in a comprehensive manner. With a view to selecting the best alternative for planning of the bridge approaches, a number of alternatives were prepared, tested and evaluated with respect to existing and future traffic. Finally, the study has been conclusive by identifying the best alternative with a detail cost benefit analysis. It is worth mentioning that the best alternative identified is envisioned to be implemented shortly.
