DETERMINATION OF RESISTANCE TO ICEBREAKER MOVEMENT IN OPEN WATER AND IN ICE
OPREDELENIYE SOPROTIVLENIYA DVIZHENIYU LEDOKOLOV V SVOBODNOY VODE I VOL L'DAKH
Discusses the resistance of the medium, giving formulas for an icebreaker moving through a solid ice cover, and through broken ice in terms of the vessel's specifications, ice characteristics and parameters, and the icebreaker's rate of speed. Sea-going characteristics of 28 icebreakers, incl two serial models representing three icebreakers each, are given in a table. The method discussed is found satisfactory for solving practical problems, and the formulas and the graphic solutions given may be used for the design and operation of icebreakers.
