LOGISTICS UPDATE: IMPROVING ASSET TRACKING CAPABILITY
Logistics is the process by which an organization manages the movement of goods and services at various points of the supply chain, and the information about those goods - location, routing, and contents - needs to be managed at the greatest possible level of detail. This article reviews global logistics, and the new regulations along with new technologies that are starting to come together to both protect devloped countries' supply chains and to improve cost efficiency by improving asset tracking capabilities. As security regulations and the upcoming Sunrise changes are going to require changes in logistics, the article recommends that companies seize the opportunity to offset some portion of those switching costs by investing in the upcoming technologies and realize the subsequent efficiency gains.
