INTERNATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS: AN OVERVIEW
The paper provides an overview of the following sustainability standards: LEED - a voluntary American standard used to rate sustainable development in construction projects; Breeam - Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method; Dow Jones Sustainability Indices - Global benchmarking tools that track the financial performance of sustainability within major corporations in the world; FTSE 4 Good - the ethical business stock index, a joint venture between Financial Times and London Stock Exchange; EMAS - the Eco Management and Audit Scheme of the European Commission; and ISO 9000/14001 - standards designed by the International Organization for Standardization as global frameworks used by 147 countries to achieve consistency in internationally approved quality management services.
