COMMUTER RAIL UPDATE 2003
The article reviews some of the commuter rail programs that are continuing to advance despite the problems of finding adequate funding for high priority projects. The following programs are discussed as successful examples: Virginia Railway Express that has had to cope with rider increases far above those anticipated; Chicago's suburb-to-suburb commuter service; Chicago's South Shore Commuter Line extension; and New Jersey Transit's planned expansions along with the re-opening of the Secaucus Transfer for the first time since 9/11.
