SEEING IS BELIEVING: ENHANCED VISUAL STIMULATION
The transportation industry is beginning to use visualization techniques and simulation technology. Enhanced Visual Simulation (EVS) was used by inVISION Studios on the rebuilding of Interstate 74 through Peoria, Illinois, USA. The objectives were to assist in the study of aesthetic design scenarios and to educate and inform the general public about the construction. A digital model was used to represent four miles of interstate through urban, commercial and industrial areas of Peoria. Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will be able to study optimal sight lines in the positioning of elements such as surveillance cameras and signs. Engineering firm Crawford Bunte Brammeier and inVISION Studios have combined to integrate EVS into the traffic microsimulation industry. The benefits of EVS to the transportation industry are discussed.
