FLEXIBLE COMPOSITE PAVEMENT EVALUATION INCORPORATING BOND BETWEEN LAYERS

This paper presents a case study for a flexible composite pavement evaluation using the FalIing Weight Deflectometer (FWD) and associated techniques. An analysis was carried out to determine the pavement layer stiffnesses from the FWD test results in addition to the bonding condition between the bituminous layers. As well as the radar and coring surveys, laboratory and in-situ material testing for the bound and the unbound materials respectively was also performed in order to assist in material characterisation and pavement assessment. The results indicated that 20% and 25% of the tested bituminous and lean concrete materials respectively were poor. A weak bond between bituminous layers was found in over 40% of the investigated pavement. A good quality foundation was observed in the majority of the tested areas.
