VISUALISATION TECHNIQUES IN ROAD PLANNING AND DESIGN
This paper describes how a range of visualisation tools or techniques may be used in the planning and design of roads. It shows how visualisation enables both appearance and safety issues to be detected and addressed. The various visualisation tools are presented in chronological order of their use within Main Roads and examples of their application are given. Issues relating to the amount of use or lack of use of some of the tools are also presented. Lastly, having demonstrated the capability and ease of use of the simpler visualisation tools, it challenges designers to make more use of the humble perspective view.
